Tractor pull, combine and Car demos highlight fair

Lawn mower demo derby new this year

Two car demolition derbies, a combine demo derby,  and truck and tractor pull highlight events at the 95th annual Cannon Valley Fair in Cannon Falls June 30 through July 4. A lawn mower demolition derby is new this year.
Car and pickup demo derbies are set for Wednesday, June 30 and Saturday, July 3, at 7 p.m. Imperials and compact car heats are also planned. More entries are still being taken. Over $30,000 in prize money is offered this year.
A crowd-pleasing event, a combine demolition derby, will be held Thursday, July 1, 7 p.m. Several heats are planned with at least 12 combines entered. Farm combines 1981 and older are eligible and more entries are welcome. The last combine running claims the $1,500 first place prize. Best decorated and best hit win $100 each. The lawn mower derby and firemen tug of war will be held at intermission of the combine derby.
A second-year event, the truck and tractor pull, will be held on Friday, July 2, at 6 p.m. Several local drivers will compete in the Central Truck Pullers series.
Harness horse racing has been a tradition on July 4 at the fair for years. At least 50 horses are expected for the race card. An improved track has many speculating that a new record will be set this year. The event starts at 1 p.m.
Many free events are offered. A battle of the bands will be at 5 p.m. on June 30. Other free events include: Sat., June 26, horse show, 8 a.m.
Thurs., July 1 - minnow races, noon to 3 p.m. and 4-H demonstrations, 4-6 p.m.
Fri., July 2 - Ronald McDonald Show, 11 a.m., minnow races, noon to 3 p.m., reptile and amphibian discovery show, noon to 3 p.m., BBQ cookoff 3 p.m.
Sat., July 3 – kids power pedal tractor pull, 10 a.m.; reptile and amphibian discovery show, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; minnow races, noon  to 3 p.m. The ranch rodeo with mutton bustin will be held on Sunday, July 4 at 1 p.m.
Each night at 9 p.m., local bands will provide free entertainment.  Trailer Trash, a Twin City headliner band, will perform at a free show on July 3 at 9 p.m.
Open class and 4-H entries will be taken on one day only, Wednesday, June 30 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for open class and 1-7 p.m. for 4-H. The District 6 Holstein Show will be held at noon on July 1 and the Joe Tix Memorial Ayrshire Show will be July 3. The open class sheep show will be June 30 at 6 p.m. and July 1 at 8 a.m.
Crescent City Amusements will open on the midway at 1 p.m. on July 1. Wrist band days for unlimited rides for kids will be 1 to 5 p.m. on July 1, 6 to 10 p.m. on July 3 and noon to 4 p.m. on July 4.
A large parade is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on July 4 in downtown Cannon Falls. Exhibits will be on display throughout the fair in exhibit buildings. Celebrity donkey races are at 6 p.m. July 4. A fireworks display will be held at dusk on July 4.

Truck and Tractor Pull July 2

Smoke and thunder returns to fairgrounds

img_2582After a very successful first run last year, the Cannon Valley Fair will again present a truck and tractor pull event, with purses totaling over $6,000.
Scheduled for Friday, July 2 at 6:00 p.m, the event is actually part of the Central Truck Pullers Pulling Series and will feature some of the top modified machines from across the midwest. Super stock 4 by 4, modified 4 by 4 and modified tractor classes offer money to tenth place.
The modified class will feature the high powered machines that blow a lot of smoke and make a lot of noise, said Cannon Valley Fair event chair Gary Hovel. “That’s what the people really like to see,” said Hovel.
The super stock and modified class is organized by Fred Smith of Cannon Falls, who will be pulling at the fair. Smith can answer any questions at 507-263-2475.

Demo Derby

Over $30,000 in prize money will be offered for two Cannon Valley Fair demolition derbies, which will be held Wednesday, June 30 and Saturday, July 3.
The derby on Wednesday will feature full-size iron fresh cars (no Imperials), 80s and newer, trucks, and mid-sized front wheel drive.

Imperials will battle it out on Saturday, which also includes full-size old iron, 80s and newer, trucks, and mid-size and compacts. The Imperial class will be limited to the first 20 entries.
Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in all classes. Both events start at 7 p.m.

Cannon Valley Fair handbooks, free to all, are now available in area business places for the 95th annual fair June 30 and July 1-4 in Cannon Falls.

The book includes a complete list of what’s happening and when at the fair and a list of premiums offered for exhibitors. Also included is entry information for the Ayrshire and Holstein dairy shows, horse show, 4-H and FFA.

In Cannon Falls, fair books can be found at Ag Partners, Frontier Ag & Turf, Vasa Spring Garden Ins., Althoff Hardware, the chamber of commerce, Simon Arena, Farm Country Co-op, Hi Quality Bakery and Beacon, as well as the four banks. Out-county, books are in banks and ag businesses.

Exhibit entry day at the fair is Wed., June 30. Two demolition derbies are scheduled, on Wed., June 30 and Sat., July 3, both at 7 p.m. A super stock and modified truck and tractor pull will be Fri., July 2 at 6 p.m.

A farm combine demolition derby will be held Thursday, July 1, at 7 p.m. A new event, a lawn mower demo derby, as well as a tug-of-war between fire depts. will also  be featured that night.

Also planned are a ranch rodeo, 4-H and FFA horse show, minnow races, battle of the bands, kid power pedal tractor pull, Lyndon Peterson one-man band, reptile amphibian discovery show, BBQ cookoff and local bands every night. The All-American Lumberjack Show will have two competitions. Crescent City Amusements will be on the midway.

Harness horse racing returns for the afternoon of Sunday, July 4, at 1 p.m. The parade will be at 11:30 a.m., on July 4. Celebrity donkey races will be featured at 6 p.m. on the 4th. The traditional fireworks display will close the celebration at dusk on July 4.

The admission price to the fair is $3 per day, with children 5 and under free. An individual season pass is $8. There is no charge for parking on the fairgrounds.

Plans for 2010 July 4 Parade

Entrants will begin lining up at 10:00 a.m. in the vicinity of the high school, for the 11:30 a.m. start at East Side Park on Sunday, July 4th.
The one and one-half mile route travels west on Minnesota St. to Second St., south on Second St. to Mill St., crossing the bridge to the fairgrounds, where the Cannon Valley Fair concludes its 2010 run.

Entertainment set for 2010 CV Fair

The entertainment schedule for the 2010 Cannon Valley Fair has been set by the fair board.
Car and truck demolition derbies will return, on Wed., June 30 and Sat., July 3. The farm combine demo derby will be Thurs., July 1 and include a fireman tug-o-war and lawn mower derby.
The attraction on Fri., July 2 will be a super stock and modified truck and tractor pull. On Sun., July 4, harness horse racing will return at 1 p.m. with celebrity donkey races concluding the grandstand entertainment at 6 p.m.
New this year will be the All American Lumberjack Show, two shows daily of competition and one show daily of a sport camp for kids. A reptile and amphibian discovery show will be held twice daily.  Minnow races and Lyndon Peterson one man band return.
Music will be featured throughout the 2010 fair. A battle of bands will be on June 30. Local bands performing at the grandstand include Gone 4 Broke, Sweet North, 2 Copper Coins, Down Home and Friends and Hell Cats. The Ray Sands Band will play old time and country on July 1. A headliner band, Trailer Trash, is from the Twin Cities. They will play on July 3.
Youth horse show, District 6 Holstein Show and Ayrshire Show will return, as will the pedal tractor pull and BBQ cookoff. Ms Jaz-ee the clown will roam the grounds several afternoons. The ranch rodeo and mutton bustin will be on July 4.
Crescent City Amusements will be on the midway during the fair starting on June 30.  A parade will be at 11:30 a.m. on July 4. Fireworks will close the fair at dusk on July 4.
